Athens, OH 29 October 2012 – There are so many things about Athens, Ohio, that make it special. From the community to the refreshing nature that surrounds our school, everything about OU is unique.

One of those unique features is our annual Halloween block party. Every year people from around the state and country come to Athens Ohio to take part of the festivities. With all these people coming down they need somewhere to stay and that is when your house gets to become a short-term bed and breakfast. But this was not a normal group, we had pirates, Mickey Mouse, Batgirl, Steve Urkel, convicts, maids and to be honest some costumes that I still haven’t figured out.

With all these characters, it is hard not to get caught up in the fun. You also have the freedom to be as creative as you want and know everyone else is right there with you pushing the envelope on making their outfit different and new in some way. So I decided to bring back the days of Rome and introduce Athens to a Gladiator.

With a shiny metal (plastic) chest plate, a sharp blade (again plastic) and my hair spiked and red I was ready for another great weekend at Ohio University. From costume contests to street concerts the night seems to never get dull and always show for an entertaining evening. The people you meet, the creativity you see and the pure fun that is Halloween in Athens is something that everyone should experience I am proud to say I have.
