Athens, OH 24 December 2013 – On Saturday, December 21st, 350 Ohio University students boarded buses across the state. We were all gearing up for a trip to Florida to support our Bobcat football team in the Beef O’ Brady’s Bowl! Everyone traveling had purchased a ticket for a bus ride down to St. Petersburg, Florida, one night in the Sirata Beach Resort and a ticket to get in the Tropicana Field for the game. I had bought a ticket along with two of my roommates. Out of the 50 students on the bus, they were the only ones I knew. By the time we were headed back home, though, my roommates and I had gained a busload of new friends.

The total travel time including stops took 22 hours from Columbus, so we had plenty of time to hang out and chat with our fellow Bobcats on the bus. The bus ride turned out to be a lot of fun, meeting everyone and finding out how many of us had connections by mutual friends back in Athens. By the time we got to Florida everyone on the bus basically knew each other and were ready for a fun evening in St. Pete. The 110 and the East Carolina band played on the beach, which was awesome to watch, and a block party was set up for both OU and ECU students.

On the 23rd everyone loaded on to the buses again to get to the indoor Tropicana Field for the game. My roommates and I got great seats and prepared ourselves to cheer on the Bobcats! While standing in the bleachers surrounded by yelling students and OU fans, I once again realized how much of a community Ohio University is. Because of our love for this amazing school we all immediately had a commonality and a sense of belonging with each other. Although we ended up losing the game, we had a great time getting to travel and cheer on our awesome Bobcats on the field.

Why OU Rocks During the Fall

Athens, OH 08 October 2013 – I’m currently working through week 7 of my fall semester and it’s been a doozy! This coming week I’ll have several midterms and most people get stress about these things, and I’ll admit I do feel it too, but it’s important from time to time to stop and smell the roses, coffee, or in my case the leaf pile! Athens is absolutely gorgeous during the fall and I love fall because it’s football season and hoodie weather!

Fall

This coming weekend is Homecoming and everyone is getting excited. OUr football team is coming back from a great victory over the University of Akron (43-3 OU-Oh Yeah) and we are looking to come back and dominate Central Michigan. After we defeated Akron, I had to call my brother to taunt him because he is currently a senior there; he didn’t find it as amusing as I did of course.

Marching 110

Alumni from Ohio University will be coming down and it’s cool to see how big OU really is. I love Ohio University because it’s a b-e-a-utiful campus and Athens is the definition of a college town. The Marching 110 (OU’s Marching Band) has an annual tradition with alumni of the band. The day before homecoming is when they’re all invited back and they will rehearse with the current band members. On Saturday, alumni will be able to relive the glory days and march with their instruments again. I remember last year’s show vividly and it was flawless, our band takes pride in perfection and in excitement too! OSU may be the best damn band in the land, but OU is the most exciting band in the land!

So enjoy the fall, because it happens only once a year. And fun facts of the day: 1) you are never too old to play in a leaf pile and 2) leaf piles are more fun when raked by someone else–until they chase you away with the rake!
