Athens, OH 4 November 2012 – Yesterday, the OU Chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) held its first “Dinner with the Professors” night of the academic year. Each semester, our organization visits a Chemical Engineering Professor’s house for dinner. Typically, the first dinner of the year is held at Dr. Ridgway’s house, the advisor of AIChE. The final dinner of the year is the “End of Year Picnic” where all Chemical Engineering students are invited to attend. We grill, play cornhole, and spend one of the last Saturday afternoons of the school year together. The two pictures below are from our “End of Year Picnic” last year.

AIChE Dinner with the Professors

“Dinner with the Professors” is one of my favorite activities AIChE organizes throughout the year. Not only can you have fun with your fellow classmates, but it’s also a wonderful opportunity to meet upperclassmen and bond with your professors outside the classroom. It’s a great feeling to spend time in an actual home for a few hours compared to your dorm room—-just the touch (and taste!) of home you need before heading back to your neighborhood for Thanksgiving. Last night I had the opportunity to meet two of the Chemical Engineering Freshmen. I even discussed the OU Club Hockey Team’s upcoming game with one of my professors who is also a hockey fanatic (We won last night’s game 3-1, making our record 12-2!). These dinners also let you meet your professors’ families and their pets! And, as if any of that wasn’t enough, it’s one night where you don’t have to worry about what you are going to eat for dinner!
