Athens, OH 22 November 2019 –
As the semester comes closer to an end, we are hitting the stage where it seems as though there are more projects and assignments due than there are days left. As a senior I am fully aware of this phenomenon; however, it does not make its arrival any better.
This semester I am in my first of two semesters of ETM Capstone. For those that do not know, Capstone in ETM is a two semester class where you are placed in a group and tasked with bringing a product to “market”. This means we are responsible for every process such as, designing, inventory control systems, safety procedures, work instructions, quality standards and so on.
This might sound like a bad thing or a daunting task, instead, it is enjoyable. This class lets you bring everything you have learned into an actual tangible object. It lets you feel confident that you are able to succeed in what real world job situations could be, it lets you regain confidence in skills you may have thought you’ve lost, and it will hone your communication and time management skills when it comes to group work.
Lastly, it gets you ready to stop thinking about college and instead think about all of your future aspirations. I can only imagine the sense of accomplishment I will feel when I can hold our product in my hand and know that I am ready for the next step.
